Wht is a Book? Explores the relevance of the book in a post-modern internet era. With the rise of digital ePub's and devices such as the Kindle, is the book an outdated form of information transfer?
With the burdens of a strict purpose removed, the book is now able to transcend into a creative realm. Just as painting became more abstract as photography was invented, the world no longer relies solely on books for information, therefore they are free to express new mediums and sentiments previously unexplored.
With the flourishing abundance of webcams on every device, I chose to investigate the possibility of your book looking back at you, to cater the content to your emotional needs. As an avid fan of poetry I chose to make my tome an anthology. This was my first large coding project and it utilises OpenCV and is based on Kyle McDonald's
face tracker library. To present the application in a way that made the case a part of the art piece I created a bedazzled hard drive. It showcases a playful nostalgia about the destructive nature of evolution, leaving behind our older neglected devices for our flashy new attractions. With an iPhone charger noose and a broken smiley face bracelet this piece binds the past, present and the future.
